Softball Faces Franklin on the Road in Season Finale

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team heads out as it looks to face off against Franklin College in its final two games of the regular season.

The Series: Two games will be played today at Franklinwith the first matchup scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and then again at 5:30 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Franklin. The Fightin' Quakers sit at 13-19 overall this season and 4-14 in the OAC (Ohio Athletic Conference) after a series loss to Heidelberg this past Saturday. Franklin is 24-9 overall this season and is second in the HCAC (Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) at 11-5 after a tough loss to DePauw 3-1.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 11th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Butch Zike is in his seventh year as head coach after he was appointed to be the head coach of Franklin College's softball team in March of 2012.

Hitters to Watch:  Alecia Kemp, Allison Pierce and Savannah Hooper are all hitting above .300 this season. Kemp leads the team in hits this season with 32 while Pierce is right behind her with 28 and is hitting .315 with 13 RBIs. Hooper is hitting a team high .353 so far and has also swiped 13 bases which leads the team.  Alexis Tarver and Natalie Weber are both hitting above .400 for Franklin as Tarver leads the team with five home runs and 39 RBIs. Weber is right behind her with 36 RBIs as she is hitting .418 with two home runs on the season.

Pitchers to Watch:  Beth Persicano and Grace Shell are the duo for Wilmington as they have a combined total of 201.2 innings pitched. Persicano is 6-11 on the season through her 18 appearances with a 4.09 ERA and 49 strikeouts. Shell leads the team with her 67 strikeouts through her 99 innings pitched and has 4.60 ERA with a record of 7-8. Olivia Paszek is 15-2 on the season as she is the go to for the Grizzles. Paszek leads the team with her 109.1 innings pitched, 16 complete games, 112 strikeouts and her 1.79 ERA.

Series History: Wilmington is 3-8 against Franklin since the 2012 season.
