Softball Swept at Heidelberg in Last OAC Series

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team concluded Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a pair of losses at Heidelberg University on Saturday, falling 3-2 in game one and 8-0 in six innings in game two.

The Student Princes opened the scoring with an RBI-triple from Kaitlin Keys in the bottom of the second inning, but the Fightin' Quakers tied the game on an RBI-groundout from Jillia Cook in the top of the third. Beth Persicano stranded a Heidelberg runner on third base with one out in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI-double from KenDahl Bowles gave the visitors a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

Casey Moore tied the game by leading off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run. After a one-two-three inning in the top of the seventh, a lead-off double scored the game-winning run in walk-off fashion for Heidelberg.

Persicano took the loss despite pitching 6.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Kaitlyn Moore earned the complete-game victory allowing seven hits and two earned runs for the Student Princes.

Cook finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Bowles was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sawyer Hooper also had two hits with a run scored for Wilmington. Kaitlin Keys and Bailey Smith both went 2-for-3 for Heidelberg.

In game two, the Student Princes tagged Quaker starter Grace Shell for three earned runs in the first inning. Unfortunately for the visitors, Wilmington would get a runner to second once over the final five innings.

Kaitlyn Moore, who also pitched the first game, allowed four hits in the shutout victory for Heidelberg.

Ali Dixon, Alecia Kemp, Bailey Sweeney and Sawyer Hooper all had hits for Wilmington in game two. Five Student Princes all had two hits.

Wilmington (13-19) concludes its OAC series with a 4-14 record. The Quakers will conclude their 2018 season with a doubleheader at Franklin College on Monday.
