Marietta Edges Softball With Walk-Off Home Run

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team fell to Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) series on Saturday, dropping game one 5-0 and game two 3-2.

Jordan Pallay provided the majority of the Pioneers' offense in game one as she hit an RBI-double to right center field in the first and a three-run home run to left field in the third. Another RBI-hit from Marietta in the third gave the hosts their fifth run.

Wilmington could not string together hits against Jackie Mulvain as the Fightin' Quakers got a runner to second base twice in game one.

Grace Shell took the loss for Wilmington allowing four earned runs while striking out six in six innings pitched.

Savannah Hooper finished 2-for-3 for Wilmington in game one while Allison Pierce, Mariyah Burkhardt, Jillia Cook and KenDahl Bowles all had one hit.

In game two, Wilmington outhit Marietta 9-6 and scored first as Burkhardt singled home Meranda Wilson in the sixth inning. After the Pioneers failed to score in the bottom half, Pierce doubled the Quakers' lead with a RBI-double down the left field line scoring Savannah Hooper.

Beth Persicano, who had allowed just four hits through six innings, recorded two outs in the bottom of the seventh with a walk in between. Unfortunately for Wilmington, Marietta followed with a single and a walk-off, three-run home run from Erin Miller.

Savannah Hooper, Pierce and Cook all and multi-hit games for the Quakers while Hooper and Megan Crager both stole a base. Lauren Rockocy was the lone Pioneer to have two hits in game two.

Wilmington (9-13, 2-10 OAC) return home for a 10-game stand beginning with Capital University on Tuesday.
