Softball Heads to Otterbein Wednesday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Otterbein University for a two-game series beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Quakers are an even 9-9 on the season and coming off of consecutive OAC series splits against Ohio Northern University and Baldwin Wallace University respectively. The Cardinals are 16-8 overall and 5-3 in OAC play. Despite the record, Otterbein was swept in its last OAC series, falling to Heidelberg 4-3 in consecutive games.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 11th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Christine Steines has been with the Otterbein softball program since 2005 and has headed the program for eight seasons.

Hitters to Watch: Allison Pierce leads the Quakers with a .385 batting average to go along with 20 hits and nine RBIs. Alecia Kemp has a .377 batting average with 20 hits while Savannah Hooper, who leads the team with 22 base knocks, has stolen a team-high seven bases. Kristen Zink leads the Cardinals' offensive attack with a .484 batting average while Megan Garner has a squad-high 19 RBIs

Pitchers to Watch: Beth Persicano and Grace Shell, the former OAC Pitcher of the Week, have split the pitching duties for Wilmington as both have pitched at least 58 innings. Shell is 5-3 with a 3.00 ERA while Persicano has a 4-6 record and a 4.34 ERA. The Cardinal duo of Gabby Johnson and Rachel Owens has combined to pitch over 120 innings. Johnson averages nearly 1.5 strikeouts per inning pitched.
