WESTERVILLE – Two Wilmington College softball players were honored as All-Ohio Athletic Conference players in a vote of league coaches, the conference announced today (May 5, 2017).

Junior Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) earned first-team honors as a utility player, while freshman Jillia Cook (Canton, OH/Glen Oak) picked up second –team designated player laurels.

It's the first time since 2014, the Fightin' Quakers had a first-team selection, and more than one softball player was tabbed as all conference.

A second-team selection last season, Hooper led the OAC with 26 stolen bases. She was the team leader in both runs scored (23) and hits (38), while also leading the team in hitting with a .325 batting average. Hooper is a two-time WC Female Athlete of the Year.

"Savannah is a remarkable young lady on the field and in the classroom," said Wilmington head coach Beth Floyd. "She is a coach's dream. She puts her team mates first, works hard and has a positive attitude every day. She really stepped up and did what was best for the team by playing multiple positions this season.  She is a leader on and off the field.  She is a great role models for others.  I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach Savannah."

From day one Cook has been seen as a threat in the middle of the Fightin' Quakers' lineup, and has hit in the heart of the order since opening day. She led the team with three homeruns and 15 RBI. She was ranked nationally in hit by pitch, getting beaned eight times this season.

"Jillia had an outstanding freshman year," said Floyd. "The sky is the limit for Jillia. Her passion for the game, and her team is incredible. Jillia is a hard worker, and brings great energy and love of the game to our team. She is a student of the game and has a great softball IQ. She has made an immediate positive impact on our team. 

"Jillia and Savannah are the definition of great teammates," Floyd continued.

Wilmington, which started at least four freshmen in every game, finished the 2017 season 7-29.
