@FightinQuakerSB shutout by Muskingum

NEW CONCORD – The Wilmington College softball team was shutout in both ends of its Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader, falling to Muskingum 13-0 and 7-0 Sunday at Donna Newberry Field. Wilmington falls to 5-24 overall, 1-10 in the OAC.

Wilmington hosts Otterbein 3 p.m. Tuesday at the WC Softball Complex in an OAC doubleheader.

GAME ONE: MUSKINGUM 13, WILMINGTON 0

Muskingum sent 14 batters to the plate, and scored 10 runs on nine hits to blow the game wide open in the fourth inning. Thanks to three errors in the inning, six of the 10 runs were unearned.

Three players – junior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City), senior Allie Noggle (Ashville, OH/Teays Valley) and junior Hillary Daria-White (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) – all had singles for the Fightin' Quakers.

Freshman Beth Persicano (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in three innings of work.  

GAME TWO: MUSKINGUM 7, WILMINGTON 0

The Muskies scored four runs in the first inning and limited Wilmington to three hits in completing the sweep with the 7-0 victory.

Senior Jess Clutter (Englewood, OH/Northmont) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in 2/3 innings of action. Freshman Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) had her best outing of the season, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. She struck out three and walked one in her outing.

Freshmen Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) and Emily Smith (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook), along with sophomore Ashley McCray (Vandalia, OH/Butler), had hits for Wilmington.
