FRANKLIN, IN – The Wilmington College softball team allowed six runs in each end of their non-conference doubleheader as Franklin swept WC, 6-4 and 6-3, at Behrens Field. The six runs were the most allowed since WC yielded seven in the season opener.
"You have to give Franklin credit, they hit the ball exceptionally well," said Wilmington head coach Beth Floyd. "They were able to get the bat on the ball and put it in play. There were a couple of times we threw really good change-ups and they were able to get the bat on it and it found a hole."
Senior Danielle Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) took the loss (4-3) in the opener, allowing six runs (five earned) on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings. She recorded three strikeouts on the day. Freshman Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) was the pitcher of record in the nightcap, falling to 2-4 on the season. She surrendered six runs (three earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Senior Catlin Shilling (Waverly, OH/Waverly) continued her torrid week at the plate, going 4-for-7 with two homeruns, a double, five RBI and three runs scored. In the four games this week, Shilling went 11-for-14 with four longballs.
"It was another outstanding day at the plate for Catlin," said Floyd. "It's really nice to have someone that can have a bunt single, and then comes back and hits two homeruns later in the day."
Shilling wasn't the only Wilmington player to have a good day at the plate. Sophomore Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) went 2-for-4 with a run scored in each game. She added two doubles in the nightcap. Senior Olivia Hutchison (Mason, OH/Mason) was also 2-for-4 in each end of the doubleheader.
Freshmen Sydney Kelly (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) and Ashley McCray (Vandalia, OH/Butler) recorded RBI for Wilmington.
