Biegler goes yard in split

FT. MYERS, FL – The Wilmington College softball team was one strike away from securing a two-game sweep Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Invitational. However, for the second straight day, an opponent scored twice in the seventh inning to pull out a victory.

Wilmington dropped its second game of the day, falling to Franklin, 2-1. The Fightin' Quakers knocked off Bluffton in the first game, 3-0.

A two-out, two-strike triple brought home the tying run, and then the eventual winning run came home as a blooper eluded the diving attempt of WC's centerfielder.

Senior Kaylee Cox (Elgin, OH/Elgin) brought home Wilmington's only run of the game with an RBI groundout in the first inning, scoring sophomore Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City). The outfielder led the game off with a double, moved to the third on a wild pitch, and scored on the groundout.

WC was 0-for-7 on the game in RBI opportunities and 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Freshman Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) allowed three of her five hits in the seventh inning as fell to 0-3 on the year. She surrendered two runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Sophomore Tabby Biegler (Columbus, OH/Briggs) was responsible for all of the scoring in the opener. Senior Erika Lee (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) reached on an error, and junior Allie Noggle (Ashville, OH/Teays Valley) reached on a bunt single.

After failing to get the bunt down twice, Biegler made up for it by launching an 0-2 over the fence for a three-run homerun in the third inning.

Senior Danielle Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) allowed just one hit in seven innings with seven strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season.
