Fightin’ Quakers close out season at Great Lakes Regional

POWELL, Ohio- Several members of the Wilmington College men's and women's cross country teams finished out the 2017 season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday morning. The women did not field a whole team, as only three members of the team ran. The men, however, competed with five runners and finished 33rd out of 36 competing teams.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Women

  • Sophomore Allison Helmke (Defiance, OH/Tinora) was the first Fightin' Quaker to cross the finish line in the women's 6K race. She finished 166th out of the 247-runner field with a time of 26:04.7.

  • Freshman Summer Doty (North Lewisburg, OH/Triad) ran in next, exactly a minute later, with a time of 27:04.7, to earn 193rd-place.

  • Freshman McKenzie Hamm (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) posted a 28:09.3 to achieve 218th-place.  

Men

  • Freshman Ryan Honkomp (Maineville, OH/Little Miami) crossed the finish line first for the Fightin' Quakers in the men's 8K race. His time of 28:24.9 earned 155th-place.

  • Next in was sophomore Cameron Phelps (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) with a time of 28:42.8. This time was awarded 167th-place.

  • The pair of junior Gage Egner (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) and senior Cameron Erwin (South Vienna, OH/Northeastern) crossed the finish line only four seconds, and one place apart. Egner ran in for 186th-place with a time of 29:24.5 and Erwin for 187th-place with a time of 29:28.1.

  • The final Fightin' Quaker to cross the finish line was freshman Gage Clemens (Fairmont, WV/Senior). Clemens earned 222nd-place by posting a time of 30:42.6.
