TIFFIN, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's track & field team finished in sixth place in a field of NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III schools at the Tiffelberg Invitational hosted by Heidelberg University on Saturday.
The Fightin' Quakers finished with 37.5 points as a team, making Wilmington the third-highest finishing NCAA Division III team at the event. Host Heidelberg tallied 65 points as the top finishing Division III team while Adrian College (Michigan) finished with 61 points.
Wilmington's top individual finish was Evan Whitaker who took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:57.00 that marked only the second performance in the event under 10 minutes. George Rickett also competed in the event and finished sixth with a time of 10:26.00. Gage Clemens was the other Quaker to score in a distance event as the sophomore placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:56.13.
Aaron Koch and Taton Bertsch both tallied seventh-place finishes in the 800-meter run (2:00.29) and the 400-meter hurdles (58.22 seconds) respectively.
Wilmington had two top-five finishes in relays including the 4-x-400-meter relay team of Bertsch, Luke Richardson, Colin Myers and Elliot Phillimore who finished third with a time of 3:25.44. The Quakers finished just three hundredths of a second behind Marietta College for runner-up honors. The 4-x-100-meter relay squad of Koch, Richardson, Myers and Knaub took fifth with a time of 43.11 seconds finishing a shade under two seconds behind Adrian's top Division III time in the event.
In field events, Myers finished sixth in the high jump (6' 2 ¾") and eighth in the long jump (20' 4 ½").
Wilmington continues its outdoor season at the All-Ohio meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University next weekend.
