Men’s Track and Field Earns Eight Top-Three Finishes at Jenna Strong

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's outdoor track and field team hosted the Jenna Strong Invitational on Saturday, April 7. Of the 11 teams competing, the Fightin' Quakers finished in second place with 116 points.

The Quakers had a strong showing in the field events this afternoon, earning top-three finishes in six of the nine events.

Kalvin Butts led the way, claiming first-place in the discus throw with a toss of 44.27 meters and winning the hammer throw with a hurl of 52.74 meters. 

Antone Truss also earned two, top-three finishes, taking first-place in the high jump with a height of 1.91 meters and third-place in the long jump with a mark of 6.40 meters.

Pierce Burnam took first-place in the triple jump with a jump of 12.51 meters. While in the javelin throw, Alex Tillapaugh cinched first-place with a distance of 47.62 meters.

The Quakers were less successful on the track, only securing two, top-three finishes.

Burnam claimed second-place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.97.

Cameron Phelps earned first-place in the 5000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 16:14.36.

"I was really excited with the way the meet turned out despite Mother Nature throwing us a curveball," Head Track & Field Coach Ron Combs said. "Our athletes love competing at home in front of their friends and family. It turned out really well for us."

Wilmington heads to the All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 14. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
