Butts Wins Weight Throw at Last Chance Meet at ONU

ADA, Ohio – Wilmington College men's track & field senior Kalvin Butts earned first-place honors in the weight throw at the Polar Bear Last Chance Meet hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday.

Butts hurled a personal-best throw of 18.33 meters (60' 1 ¾") to beat the field by over four feet. Joshua Petro of Defiance College finished runner-up with a throw of 17.05 meters (55' 11 ¼").

"Kal [Butts] is one of the hardest-working people in our team," Head Track & Field Coach Ron Combs said. " I hope he makes the NCAA field as he deserve is as much as anyone that's every been a part of our program."

Butts' throw on Saturday is currently the 14th-best in the country. The official field for the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held in Birmingham, Alabama, will be announced on Monday at 9 a.m. For the men's weight throw, the top 15 marks will qualify for the national meet.
