Butts Leads Men’s Track and Field at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's indoor track and field team helped to break in Cedarville University's Doden Field House track at the Cedarville University Collegiate Invitational on Friday afternoon. Out of eight competing collegiate teams, the Fightin' Quakers finished fifth with a total of 41.5 points.

The throwing events were strong for the team this evening as Kalvin Butts led the Quakers, out tossing the competition in the weight throw by over one meter. His toss of 17.40 meters earned first-place and 10 points for the team. Joe Holcomb earned second-place in the shot put with a distance of 14.11 meters.

Pierce Burnam earned thir place, behind a tie for first, only two-tenths of a second ahead of him, in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63.

The final top-ten finish for the Quakers came from Cameron Phelps earned ninth-place with a time of 9:26.28 in the 3000-meter run.

Gino Hinton qualified for finals in the 60-meter dash from a prelims time of 7.23 and was seeded seventh going into the event, but unfortunately disqualified during the finals run.

The 400-meter dash was a strong event for the team as three Quakers finished in the top twenty. Elliot Phillimore earned 13th with a time of 55.61, Eric Flynn, Jr. took 14th in 55.67, and Aaron Koch achieved 17th with a time of 56.90.  

Wilmington heads to the Indoor All-Ohio Championship Meet hosted by Otterbein University on February 10.
