Men's Track and Field Back in Action at Marietta Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College (WC) men's track and field team picks their season back up after the holiday break with an invitational hosted by Marietta College at 11 a.m. Saturday.  

The Teams: Wilmington will be joined by host and fellow Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member Marietta College. Non-conference competitors will include Glenville State, Alderson Broaddus, and Ohio Valley.

The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 17th season as the head coach of Wilmington's men's and women's track and field teams. Combs has been named Coach of the Year, twice by the Heartland Athletic Conference, and once by the OAC. In 2002, he led the men's indoor team to a sixth-place finish at NCAA DIII Championships.

WC Runners to Watch: In the 200-meter dash, first-time runner AJ Hightower has quickly become a WC favorite. Hightower goes into the meet seeded sixth in the event. Teammate Pierce Burnam is one of the top, returning 500-meter runners in the OAC, and is seeded first for tomorrow's event. Burnam also stands out in the 55-meter hurdles, currently sitting fifth in the lineup.

WC Field Events to Watch: Joe Holcomb comes to the meet as one of the top throwers in the OAC; he will compete in the shot put and weight throw. Holcomb in both events by teammate Kalvin Butts, who in the weight throw, is one of the OAC's top returners.
