Patterson competes Friday at Outdoor Championships

Senior Christian Patterson will cap his career Friday as the lone Wilmington College Track & Field athlete to participate in the NCAA Division III Outdoor championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.

"I think Christian is ready for Nationals," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "The focus all year was on the three championship meets; All-Ohio, the OAC championships and Nationals. He was great in the first two, and I think he will be great in the third one. He had a good practice today. He just needs to go to Nationals relaxed and confident.

"If he goes to Nationals and stays relaxed, and approaches it like it's just another meet at OWU – he will be fine," Combs continued. "The pressure is on everyone else. He likes jumping at OWU and has jumped well there in the past."

Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) won the high jump at Ohio Wesleyan on May 14, jumping 6-9. However, his qualifying is 6-10.25 – which ranks him seventh in the country.

The high jump starts 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Sophomore Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) missed qualifying in the shot put by 3.5 inches.

The 4x400 team of Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller), Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View), Derek Kilgo (Charlotte, NC/North Royalton) and Jake Sydnor (Owensville, OH/Clermont Northeastern) finished 1.7 seconds away from qualifying.
