AKRON, Ohio – Isak Alin broke the Wilmington College men's swimming program record in the 100-yard breaststroke twice in one day on day two of the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships hosted at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium on Friday.
Alin broke a Jason Keith (1998-99) record for the second time in as many days with a 58.20-second swim in the event in the morning prelims and followed that performance by finishing sixth in the championship with a time of 57.77 seconds. Four other Fightin' Quakers - Frederick Rankin (59.52 seconds), Ian Darras (1:03.03), Brody Morris (1:04.34) and Jared Shoemaker (1:08.48) competed in the consolation final of the event.
Darras, who finished the 400-yard IM prelims with a time of 4:41.07, improved upon his performce by nearly a second in the consolation finals (4:40.12) to earn a second-place finish. Aaron Polk (54.91 seconds) and Mac Warncke (58.61 seconds) earned sixth and seventh-place finishes respectively in the consolation final of the 100-yard butterfly.
Lawrence Daya (58.86 seconds) and Mike Austin (1:01.82) earned the final two spots in the consolation finals of the 100-yard backstroke with prelim swims and finished fourth (56.79 seconds) and eighth (58.36 seconds) in the consolation final respectively. In the 200-yard freestyle, Logan Schroer (1:50.05) took third in the consolation final while Samuel Shanes (1:56.71) and George Rickett (2:01.86) took seventh and eighth place respectively.
Wilmington's 200-yard medley relay squad of Daya, Rankin, Alin and Schroer took fifth with a time of 1:40.00. The Quakers' 800-meter freestyle relay team, comprised of Polk, Shanes, Warncke and Darras, also finished in fifth place (7:47.01).
"We've had so many great performances over the last two days as we've worked all year to swim our best at this meet," Head Men's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "We still swam really well despite a little fatigue setting in on day two. That's a testament to the training they've put in and the toughness you need as we approach day three of the championships." After two days, the Quakers sit in a tie for fourth place with Baldwin Wallace University with 199 points. John Carroll University leads the field with 620 points.
The final day of the 2019 OAC Swimming & Diving Championships begins tomorrow (Saturday) with prelims at 10 a.m.
