DELAWARE, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's swimming team concluded the Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in fifth place after the final even concluded on Sunday.

The Fightin' Quakers finished the event with 383 points, well ahead of Manchester University and Urbana University. Host Ohio Wesleyan won the invitational with 815 points.

"We had some breakthrough swims this weekend that show people are swimming with more confidence," Head Men's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "A lot of swimmers at the meet were tapered, and even though we were not, we still competed very well."

Isak Alin headlined the individual performances by breaking the program record in 100-yard IM. The freshman finished second in the event with a time of 55.11. Frederick Rankin also had a great swim in the 400-yard IM, placing fourth with a time of 4:44.62.

Wilmington also had two teams in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay record top 10 finishes. Lawrence Daya, Rankin, Alin and Logan Schroer (3:48.54) placed fourth in the 400-yard medley relay while the Quaker squad of Mike Austin, Ian Darras, Aaron Polk and Samuel Shanes took eighth (4:09.63) in the event. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Schroer, Alin, Mac Warncke and Daya took fifth (1:33.08) and Rankin, Jared Shoemaker, Brody Morris and Darras took ninth (1:39.53).

"The momentum we gained from this meet will go a long way as we prepare for our training trip at the end of the semester," said Breen. "I look forward to continued improvement in January at our next competition."

Wilmington's next scheduled competition is a dual meet at Manchester University on Jan. 12, 2019.
