Men’s Swimming Fourth After Day One

AKRON, Ohio - The Wilmington College (WC) men's swimming team competed in day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship Swim Meet hosted by Ohio Northern University at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron on Thursday.

The Fightin' Quakers finished the night with 101 points, settling into fourth-place with two more days of competition remaining.

The Quakers' highest individual place finish came from Andrew Stewart in the 50-yard freestyle. Stewart, who went into tonight's session seeded second with a time of 20.96, touched the wall in 21.17 to earn fifth-place in finals.

Teammate Alex Tillapaugh also competed in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle. He earned tenth-place with a time of 21.80.

The Quakers took ninth and tenth in the 500-yard freestyle. David Bellus placed ninth with a time of 4:52.75 and Cody Nash earned tenth with a time of 4:47.27.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Frederick Rankin touched the wall in 2:05.57 for thirteenth-place while Ian Darras came in fifteenth with a time of 2:11.38.

The 400-yard medley relay consisted of Lawrence Daya, Rankin, Tillapaugh, and Stewart. The quartet earned fourth-place with a time of 3:38.75.

Stewart, Tillapaugh, Daya, and Nash composed the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group came in fifth with a time of 1:28.60.

Following the conclusion of the session, Tillapaugh time trialed the 100-yard individual medley where he set a new team record with a time of 55.65.

WC is back in action at 10 a.m. tomorrow for Day Two prelims where the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard backstroke will be contested.
