Fightin’ Quaker men fourth at OWU invite

DELAWARE, Ohio-- The Wilmington College men's swimming team completed competition in the final session of the, two-day, three-session, Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday morning. Going into this session, the Fightin' Quakers were fighting to stay ahead of the fifth-place team, keeping their fourth-place slot. Throughout today's competition, they held on and pulled further away from the fifth-place team, finishing the meet solidly in fourth-place with 412 points- 86 points ahead of fifth-place Notre Dame College.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Fightin' Quakers had a strong showing in the 100-yard individual medley. Senior Alex Tillapaugh (Wilmington, OH/Wickenburg) earned third-place with a time of 58.01. Sophomore Frederick Rankin (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) touched the wall next for the team, earning fifth-place, posting a time of 59.43.

  • In the 50-yard freestyle, junior sprinter Andrew Stewart (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie) got his hand on the wall first for the Fightin' Quakers. His time of 21.79 earned fifth-place.

  • Senior David Bellus (Upper Marlboro, MD/Northmont) claimed sixth-place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:07.07. Senior Cody Nash (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) finished just behind, with a time of 18:23.12 to earn seventh-place.

  • Stewart, Tillapaugh, Bellus, and junior Lawrence Daya (North Canton, OH/Glen Oak) joined together to form the team's 'A' 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet finished fifth in the field with a time of 1:32.37.

  • Daya, Nash, Tillapaugh, and Stewart made up the Fightin' Quakers' 400-yard medley relay. This group was awarded fifth-place with a time of 3:47.62.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The Fightin' Quakers go on a hiatus from competition until January 13, when they take on Manchester University at home.
