DELAWARE- The Wilmington College men's swimming team completed the final session of the Corbiere-Merion Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday with one, timed final session. The men, who were in third place at the conclusion of day one, fought hard to keep their standing during the final session. The men finished the meet still in third place, with 633.5 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior Erik Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) claimed the second, second-place finish for the team, touching the wall in 4:20.86 in the 400-yard individual medley. E. Spraul also competed individually in the 100-yard individual medley where he achieved third place with a time of 57.65.

  • E. Spraul, sophomore Brendan Tirado (Dayton, OH/Oakwood), Alex Tillapaugh (Wilmington, OH/Wickenburg), and Stewart formed the Fightin' Quakers' 'A' 200-yard freestyle relay which earned fourth place by completing the eight laps in 1:30.96.

HEAD COACH TRIP BREEN QUOTES

  • "The freshmen are finally starting to acclimate and swim how we'd like them to swim. For example, Bruce Kotlinski went 1:05 in the 100 [butterfly] yesterday and made one small, technical adjustment for his 100 [butterfly] on a relay this morning to go a 1:02. They're definitely swimming smarter."

  • "We're ready for a break from competition. During this break we'll focus on correcting our deficiencies and go from there. I think everyone is fit, so this time will be good to focus on development of power and our ability to finish races. We'll push limits during training and by doing so, the team will gain confidence."

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The Fightin' Quakers take a hiatus from competition until 1 PM January 14th when they'll compete in a dual meet at Manchester University.
