Men's Soccer Heads to Capital for OAC Play

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team will travel to Bexley, Ohio to battle Capital University in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital, the Fightin' Quakers are 10-5-2, 3-3-1 OAC after a 2-1 loss to Baldwin Wallace in double overtime. The Crusaders are 7-4-4, 4-2-1 OAC after a tie with Ohio Northern 2-2. 

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his second year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Alan Yost is in his eighth season as head men's soccer coach at Capital University. His team garnered the OAC championship in 2018 and he looks to continue a streak currently at seven years in which Capital Men's Soccer has been .500 or better in both its conference and overall records.

The Players: Ian Molfenter leads the Quakers in goals with nine, five of which were scored in OAC competition. Zach Burgmeier has been a consistent scorer all season for Wilmington with eight goals and a team leading five assists. Felix Maurer has started every game for the Quakers and has recorded 48 saves and four shutouts. Brandon Woo leads the Crusaders in goals with four, he has also dished out one assist. Kyle Morais has played every minute of action for Capital and has allowed 18 goals with 52 saves and four shutouts.

Series History: Wilmington is 13-9-2 against Capital since 1991, the Crusaders have won the last four meetings.

Conference Standings: Wilmington is currently in sixth place in the OAC standings and will need a win to improve its chances of making the OAC tournament.
