Unbeaten streak ends at five for @DubC_MSoccer

In a battle of the Quakers, Earlham scored the game's only goal in the 73rd minute, snapping Wilmington five-match unbeaten streak Wednesday in non-conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

"Earlham came out ready to play, and I don't think we were," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "I don't know why, don't have any reasons why; we got back to a relatively healthy starting lineup, but Earlham – early on – created some dangerous chances. We are quite lucky they didn't get on the scoreboard a couple of times."

It is the first time this season, Wilmington failed to score a goal, and the first time in six games they failed to score multiple goals.

The second half was really a defensive struggle until Earlham seized the moment in the 73rd minute.

"In the second half, neither team was creating too many dangerous chances, but the one chance they got – they scored," said Lewis. "We didn't get as dangerous as we should have."

Wilmington managed seven shots in the game with freshman Anton Holmqvist (Tyreso, Sweden / Varmoto Gymnasium) being responsible for three of the team's shots.

Senior Nick Baker (Indianapolis, IN/Decatur Central) recorded one save.

Both teams were responsible for four corner kicks, while Earlham had 12 fouls and Wilmington 11 fouls.

Wilmington (3-2-2) plays its first road game in more than three weeks when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Bethany for a non-conference match 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
