Three second-half goals sink men's soccer

CLEVELAND – In a physical match-up, the Wilmington College men's soccer team allowed three second-half goals and fell to Case Western Reserve, 3-0, in non-conference action at DiSanto Field.

"They came out and applied a great deal of pressure on us in the second half," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "They were all over it. We couldn't match their physicality or their energy. They just outcoached us and outworked us. We weren't particularly sharp in any phase of our game."

The Spartans scored less than five minutes in the second half. With the lead, Case continued to pressure the Wilmington defense. The Fightin' Quakers were outshot in the second 45 minutes, 17-3. In total, CWR outshot Wilmington, 25-8.

While the game was physical in nature, the two teams combined for just five fouls and two yellow cards.

Case added goals in the 73rd and 81st minutes to seal the victory.

Senior Daniel Wicks (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) faced 10 shots, making seven saves, playing all 90 minutes.

Senior Drew Fields (Terrace Park, OH/Mariemont) recorded two of Wilmington's five shots on goal.

Wilmington (5-3-1) travels to Thomas More 4 p.m. Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the season.
