Two first-half goals lead men's soccer

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College men's soccer team scored two goals in the first half to help the WC claim the battle of Quakers Saturday, beating Earlham in non-conference action at Charlie Gilhart Field.

There weren't many shot attempts in the game as the two teams totaled 15 shots, only seven of which were on frame. In other words, Wilmington made the most of its few attempts.

Freshman Cody Sabins (Marysville, OH/Marysville) scored his second goal of the season, taking a pass from sophomore Martin Holmquist (Karlstad, Sweden/Alvkulle Gymnasiet) and depositing it in the back of the net in the 26th minute.

Wilmington picked up some insurance as junior Kurt Egbert (Botkins, OH/Botkins) scored his first goal on his first shot of the season in the 41st minute. Sophomore Dan Wicks (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) registered his team-high third assist on the goal.

Junior Anton Niklasson (Ockero, Sweden/Frolundagymnasiet) started his first game of the season, and recorded two saves.

The Fightin' Quakers (3-3) hosts Kenyon 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at Charlie Gilhart Field.
