KANSAS CITY, KS – Sophomore Martin Holquist and junior Henrik Hornnaess were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America today (December 6, 2012) for their exploits on the pitch.

Holmquist (Karlstad, Sweden/Alvkulle Gymnasiet) was named NSCAA/Continential Tire NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Second Team, while Hornaess (Brumunddal, Norway/Hamar Katerdralskole) earned third team honors. Wilmington was the only Ohio Athletic Conference school, other than National Runner-Up Ohio Northern, with multiple all-region selections.

"Having Martin and Henrik making the All-Great Lakes Region and recognized at this level by opponent coaches puts them in the company of the best players in the Region and that's good company for them and good for Wilmington College Men's Soccer," said WC head coach Bud Lewis.

Both players earned first-team All-OAC nods following the completion of the season.

Holmquist's defensive prowess was one of the reasons for Wilmington's success this season. He helped the Quakers record five shutouts this season. Holmquist was an honorable mention All-OAC selection last season.

"Martin had an outstanding season for us in the defense and we looked for him to initiate many of our buildups out of the back," said Lewis. "Martin's technical level of play and his vision are qualities that separate him from my players at the Division III level. His strong presence and success on the field is very much recognized by opponent coaches. He is an integral part of our teams improvement the last two years."

Hornaess became one of Wilmington's most dangerous weapons with his striking ability on set pieces, and he finished the season second in the OAC with 11 assists.

"Henrik's ability to create dangerous scoring chances as well as his poise and composure in the midfield are qualities that have put him on the Great Lakes All-Region Team," said Lewis. "Henrik's services on free kicks create numerous goals and goal scoring chances. His corner kick are especially difficult to defend against. He has 13 assist in the past two years and has also scored some very important goals as well."

Wilmington finished the season 10-8-1 and fell in overtime to John Carroll in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament.
