Men's Lacrosse Beaten at Bethany 16-7

BETHANY, West Virginia - Bethany College used a big third period to pull away from the Wilmington College men's lacrosse team and earn a 16-7 non-conference win on Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers fell behind 2-0 early in the first quarter, but were able to battle back thanks to a pair of goals by Austin Young. Justen Shaw scored just before the end of the first quarter to tie the game at 3-3. The Bethany Bison seized control of the second quarter scoring three unanswered goals making the score at the half 3-6. 

The game quickly got out of reach in the third quarter. Austin Bondurant and Garrett Murrell were able to find the back of the net, however, Bethany converted six chances giving them the 13-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Austin Young scored his third goal early in the fourth quarter and Justen Shaw scored his second goal of the day late. Bethany College would go on to win with a final score of 16-7

Individually, Austin Young scored three goals bringing his season total to seven. Justen Shaw scored twice giving him five for the season. Cody Everly faced 36 shots on goal and saved 20. 

Up next, Wilmington will play its season opener against Earlham at 7 p.m. in Williams Stadium on Wednesday.
