W&J Defeats Men's Lacrosse 22-6

WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania – The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team rounded out its spring trip with a 22-6 loss at Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) on Saturday afternoon.

The Presidents started quickly by scoring the first two goals four minutes into the game. Mike Smith got the Fightin' Quakers on the board with a goal up a man, but back-to-back goals from W&J gave the hosts a 4-1 advantage. The final 90 seconds of the quarter saw four goals scored including a Zac Chucta goal off an assist from Mike Smith. Unfortunately for Wilmington, W&J scored the last three to lead 7-2 after 15 minutes.

W&J kept up its scoring pace the rest of the game, netting four, five and six goals respectively. Wilmington scored one goal in the second (Peter Locke), one in the third (Smith) and two in the fourth (Ronald Gatts and Austin Young).

Benjamin Ward led the Presidents with four goals while Alex Strain, Brendan Tribeck, Sam Lex, Mark Mandak, Reilly Oliverio and Pat Brunner also had multi-goal games for W&J.

Smith was involved in 4-of-6 goals for Wilmington scoring two goals and assisting on two others. Isaac Louis Charles led the squad with seven ground balls.

As a team, W&J held an 18-13 advantage in face-offs, 49-23 in shots and 47-39 in ground balls. The Presidents converted 19-of-24 clears compared to 12-of-24 for the Quakers.

Wilmington (1-4) opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play at Ohio Northern University next Saturday.
