Men's Lacrosse Edges Heidelberg 10-9 For First OAC Victory

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team won its first OAC game 10-9 this season against Heidelberg in a thrilling contest on Friday. Senior Jhordan Lang broke the all-time career goals record for Wilmington College during the game.

The first half was an exciting back and forth game of goals for both sides. Wilmington opened up with a goal from Lang to give the Quakers the early lead. Heidelberg quickly responded with a goal of its own two and a half minutes later. The final minutes of the quarter came with a flurry of goals from both teams with Wilmington edging out the Student Princes 3-2. The second quarter resulted in the Student Princes edging out Wilmington with a 4-3 goal lead. Three different Quakers scored during the period, but Heidelberg scored at the 5:30 mark making the score a 6-6 tie.

Wilmington came out on fire in the third quarter scoring four goals, two of which came from Connor Judge. The Quakers took the lead at the end of the third with a score of 10-6. The game was setting up to be a win for the Quakers but Heidelberg wouldn't go without a fight. The Student Princes held the Quakers scoreless in the fourth quarter while the offense went on the attack. Heidelberg went on a 3-0 scoring run to come within one point of a tie game. With two minute left in the quarter and the possession going to Heidelberg, the Quakers needed a stop to win the game. With 34 seconds left the Quaker defense forced a Student Prince turnover and recovered it to win the game.

Jhordan Lang scored two goals on the evening putting himself in the sole lead of the all-time goal-scoring title at Wilmington College. Connor Judge led the way in the goal category netting four on the evening. Both Andrew Miller and Zac Chucta added two goals as well. Defensively, Michael Aquaviva had a stellar evening recording a team-high four caused turnovers. Jake Ladendorf had his best night in goal all year totaling 28 saves on 37 shots.

Wilmington (4-7, 1-4) will travel to Otterbein on Tuesday, April 17. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm.
