Men's Basketball Looks to Even Season Series With Ohio Northern on Thursday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team heads to Ohio Northern University for a 7 p.m. Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest on Thursday (postponed from Wednesday due to weather).

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern (ONU). The Quakers are 5-12 on the season and 1-9 in conference games after an 87-57 defeat to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 8-9 overall and 4-6 in league contests having most recently fallen at Marietta Collerge 78-58 on Saturday.

The Coaches: Micah Mills enters his eighth season with the Wilmington men's basketball program with the 2022-23 campaign being his first as head coach. He helped WC to a 17-8 record during the 2018-19 season and came within a game of the program's first OAC regular season championships. Mills, a graduate of Ohio Valley University, spent three seasons as an assistant coach at fellow OAC member Otterbein University before coming to Wilmington. Neal Young, a 2008 alumnus of Anderson University (Indiana), is in his first season as ONU's head coach. He has spent time as a head coach at both Covenant College (Georgia) and Goshen College (Indiana).

The Players: Wilmington is led by a pair of front-court players in Abdul Kanu and Obed Achirem. Both score in double figures with Kanu leading the way at 13.3 points per contest. Achirem nearly averages a doube-double at 11.4 points and 8.9 rebounds a contest. Bryce Bird scores 8.2 points per game while freshman Collin Barker, whose average is up to 6.6 points, poured in a career-high 22 points in the Quakers' loss to Baldwin Wallace over the weekend. C.J. Napier leads ONU in scoring (16.7 PPG) and rebounding (6.9 RPG) while Landen Long and Adam Scott also score in double figures for the Polar Bears.
