
WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team begins the second half of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play by hosting Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. Tip-off from Fred Raizk Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Quakers enter the matchup with a 5-11 overall record having finished the first round robin of conference play 1-8. WC most recently fell at home to Otterbein University 81-49. The Yellow Jackets are 7-9 on the season and tallied a 3-6 record in conference play in the first half. BW most recently fell to No. 8 John Carroll University 96-91 on the road.
The Coaches: Micah Mills enters his eighth season with the Wilmington men's basketball program with the 2022-23 campaign being his first as head coach. He helped WC to a 17-8 record during the 2018-19 season and came within a game of the program's first OAC regular season championships. Mills, a graduate of Ohio Valley University, spent three seasons as an assistant coach at fellow OAC member Otterbein University before coming to Wilmington. Tom Heil, a 2007 alumnus of Bluffton University, has been BW's head coach since the 2015-16 season. The Yellow Jackets have a 103-73 record during his tenure.
The Players: Wilmington is led by a pair of frontcourt players in Abdul Kanu and Obed Achirem. Both average double figures in scoring with Kanu leading the way at 14.1 points per game. Achirem nearly averages a double-double with a team-leading nine rebounds a game while Bryce Bird assists in the scoring department at 8.4 points per game. Four Yellow Jackets - Anthony Mazzeo, Ashton Price, Jake Snyder and Jackson Simmons - score over 10 points per game with Mazzeo leading the way at 17.5 points per game. Simmons leads BW in rebounding at 6.6 boards per contest.
