TIFFIN, Ohio – Heidelberg University jumped to an early double-digit lead and never looked back in an 89-73 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory over the Wilmington College men's basketball team at Seiberling Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Student Princes jumped out to an 18-15 lead in the first seven minutes thanks in some part to scoring on four of their first five possessions. A DaeShawn Jackson layup at the 10:32 mark got the Fightin' Quakers back within six (20-14), but that's a close as they would get as Heidelberg went on a 16-2 run that spanned nearly eight minutes to open up a 20-point lead.
Wilmington, which trailed 46-27 at halftime, got as close as 13 points in the second half, but couldn't get closer as Heidelberg earned the season split.
The hosts finished over 50 percent from both the field and beyond the three-point arc to go along with a 25-of-29 (86.2 percent) performance from the charity stripe. The visitors were held to under 35 percent from the field and from distance and made 15-of-25 of their free throw attempts. Heidelberg, despite 19 turnovers, held a 45-33 rebounding edge.
The Heidelberg duo of Tamal Wilkins and Dylan Woods both finished with 19 points while Emmanuel Perdue chipped in 11 off the bench. Bailey Croft led the Student Princes in rebounding with eight boards.
Jackson finished with 20 points to lead all scorers while Colin Myers and Jeffery Mansfield also scored in double figures for Wilmington.
The Quakers (7-12, 5-7 OAC) head to Otterbein University on Wednesday evening.
