Men's Basketball Heads to Capital Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team travels to Capital University for the final Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest of the 2018 calendar year on Wednesday. Tip-off from the Capital Center is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers are 5-3 on the season, 2-2 in the OAC and looking to snap a two-game skid after falling at No. 10 Marietta College 86-69 on Saturday. The Crusaders stand at 9-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play after defeating Westminster College (Pennsylvania) 87-69 on Monday. 

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt is in his 12th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Damon Goodwin has been Capital's head coach for 23 seasons. The Crusaders have claimed seven OAC titles under his leadership.

The Players: Three Wilmington individuals - Kevin Lewis, DaeShawn Jackson and Will Patrick - all score in double figures with Lewis leading the team at 16.9 points per game. Lewis also leads the squad in rebounding at 6.4 boards per contest while Abdul Kanu, Jeffery Mansfield, Andrew Russell and Colin Myers all grab over three rebounds per game. Payton Smith dishes out a team high 3.1 assists per contest. Capital is led by three seniors – Joey Weingartner, Caleb Cox and Austin Schrenk – who all scored over 15 points per game. Cox averages a double-double per game, grabbing 10.7 boards per contest.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game - Wilmington 78.6, Capital 81.4; opponents points per game - Wilmington 76.5, Capital 69.3; field goal percentage - Wilmington 41.8, Capital 47.9; three point percentage - Wilmington 37.0, Capital 35.5; free throw percentage - Wilmington 70.1, Capital 75.6; rebounds per game - Wilmington 36.4, Capital 39.0; assist-to-turnover ratio - Wilmington 0.89, Capital 1.10.
