Huge First Half Leads Marietta Past Men's Basketball

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Marietta College shot over 54 percent from the field in a 100-71 victory over the Wilmington College men's basketball team in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action from Hermann Court on Saturday.

The Pioneers opened the game on a 17-4 run fueled by two baskets from Anthony Wallace and two triples from Jason Ellis. Marietta, ranked No. 20 on the most recent d3hoops.com poll, opened up a 20-point edge as an Avery Williams layup made the score 31-10 with 9:37 to play.

Andrew Russell got the deficit under 20 points with a layup, but Marietta ended the half on a 21-10 run to take a 52-23 edge. The Pioneers held the lead throughout the second half to earn the OAC win.

Nathan Scott led the Quakers with 17 points off the bench while Will Patrick added 14 points including 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

Five Pioneers finished in double figures in scoring including Wallace's 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Williams' double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams hit a dozen three-pointers, but Marietta had 33 field goals compared to 21 for Wilmington. The Pioneers also held a 47-25 rebounding edge.

Wilmington (3-6, 0-4 OAC) steps out of conference play for the final time on Monday for a 7 p.m. contest at Trine University.
