WC falls to CWR, Leppert All-tournament team

CLEVELAND – The Wilmington College men's basketball team shot less than 30 percent from the field Saturday in falling to host Case Western Reserve, 72-65, in the championship game of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Tournament.

The Spartans took control of the game by scoring 16 of 27 points midway through the second half, allowing CWR to boost its one-point lead to 10. Case grew its lead to as much as 13 before Wilmington made a push to get back into the game.

Wilmington dropped in half of its eight three-point field goals in final four minutes. The Fightin' Quakers pulled to as close as five points, but ran out of time.

WC finished 8-of-23 (34.8 percent) from the three-point line and just 22-of-75 from the field.

Senior R.J. Leppert (Liberty Township, OH/Lakota East) was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 12 points over the two games. In the loss to CWR, the senior guard shot 4-of-22 from the field for nine points with seven rebounds.

Senior Ben McGriff (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) and sophomore Law Williams (Dayton, OH/Thurgood Marshall) each scored a team-high 10 points in the loss. Freshman Roemello Reeves (Dayton, OH/Spring Valley Academy) pulled down a career and team-high nine boards, while freshman Christian Jones (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton) dished out a team-high three assists.

Wilmington (1-2) returns to the hardwood 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to play Thomas More in non-conference action.
