In 2019, Byrne called plays for an offense that was a large reason the Fightin' Quakers finished with their best season in a decade. Byrne worked with the offensive line in 2017 and helped mentor Sterling Clark to Honorable Mention All-OAC honors. He also aided Head Coach Bryan Moore in snapping the Fightin' Quakers' 40-game OAC losing streak by defeating Capital University 37-30 in overtime in 2017. Additionally, both DJ Chambers and Luke Richardson garnered All-OAC recognition in Byrne's offense in 2018.

Prior to Wilmington Byrne serving as an assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan University working with the offensive line and eight ends. Prior to his one season with the Battling Bishops, Byrne was a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Heidelberg.
