Creditt named OAC Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN – Wilmington College quarterback Luke Creditt has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today (September 25, 2017).

Creditt (Wilmington, OH/Waynesville) led the Fightin' Quakers to the 37-30 victory over Capital Saturday, breaking a 40-game OAC losing streak and a 16-game skid to the Crusaders.

"It is great for Luke to have this moment," said Wilmington head coach Bryan Moore. "He has been through a lot of rough situations during his career here at Wilmington. He is a mentally "Tuff" kid, a fighter, and a great competitor. When we needed him the most, he was able to elevate his game and make some plays on his own. He gets out of a lot of bad situations. This year he is making better decisions with the football and so far, has done a nice job of not making bad situations worse. I think that happens naturally with maturity and getting comfortable in an offense."

A season after throwing just five touchdowns, Creditt threw five scoring strikes in Saturday's game. He completed 18-of-30 passes for 297 yards and zero interceptions. It was the eleventh time in school history a quarterback threw at least five touchdowns in a game.

He is the second WC player to earn the league's weekly honor this season. Freshman Parris Weathersby earned OAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after Wilmington's week one victory over Earlham.

Wilmington has scored 114 points through three games, which is one point less than the Fightin' Quakers' 2016 total. Part of the reason for WC's success has been the ability to keep Creditt upright. He was sacked 36 times, or 3.6 times a game, last season, and has been sacked just once in three games this year.

Wilmington (2-1 overall, 1-1 OAC) travels to University Heights to grapple with John Carroll 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The Blue Streaks, the reigning OAC champions, began the season ranked eighth nationally, but have fallen out of the Top 25 after a 47-21 loss to Heidelberg.
