Quakers rack up season-high 150 rushing yards

BEREA – The Wilmington College football team rushed for a season-high 150 yards and scored a season-high 17 points, but fell to No. 24 Baldwin-Wallace Saturday, 49-17, at George Finnie Field in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

"We executed today," said head coach Jay Niswonger. "I didn't call anything different; we just executed. The good thing is upfront we got after some people. Moving (former tight end) Matt (Stooksbury) to tackle made a world of difference. We basically ran four running plays. What is killing us are the turnovers. Every time we turn the ball over, they score."

The Fightin' Quakers outscored Baldwin-Wallace, 10-7, in the second half. Wilmington's previous high was the 14 points it scored in the opener. Coming into today's game, WC scored 12 points total in OAC action.

Freshman Alex Koyfis (Kristianstad, Sweden/Soderportgymnasiet) got Wilmington on the board with his first career touchdown, a 29-yard reception from junior quarterback Brandon Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington). The score culminated a four-play, 75-yard drive with 5:17 seconds left in the second quarter.

Koyfis finished with 113 yards of total offense on 63 yards receiving and 50 yards rushing. He had five catches and 10 carries, including a rushing touchdown.

Senior Tyrell Richardson (Columbus, OH/Centennial) tallied a team-high 58 yards on nine carries. For the game, Wilmington lugged the ball 34 times for 150 yards.

Arehart finished the game 20-of-28 passing for 194 yards and one touchdown. He completed passes to seven different receivers.

The OAC's leading tackler, freshman Gunner Calhoun (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie) led the team with 12 tackles, including one for a loss. Safeties Trevor Hooker (New Port Richey, FL/River Ridge) and Devon Burton (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) added seven tackles each for the Quakers.

Wilmington (0-6 overall, 0-5 OAC) returns to Townsend Field at Williams Stadium Saturday for a Homecoming game against Marietta.
