Equestrian Team General Information

The Wilmington College equestrian team is comprised of hunt seat and western riders. We compete against other teams in our region under the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association or IHSA. Competition consists of reining, horsemanship, equitation on the flat and over fences. The WCET shows in equitation and horsemanship seats on horses provided by the host college. The team encourages riders of all levels to compete from beginners to advanced! Once placed in an IHSA division, the rider will work toward gaining points during placement in order to qualify for the Regional, Zone/Semi Finals, and National shows.

All team members of the WCET are required to take the corresponding course (EQ 285/485), attend meetings and practice as scheduled. Additional fundraising and team building events are planned throughout the year as their schedule allows. The team is a commitment to any other collegiate sport and requires dedication and accountability.

Regular practices/lessons are scheduled weekly and will occur at the Wilmington College Equestrian Center (WCEC). The coach will provide appropriate times and calendar method of sign ups. Weather permitting, the each member will be responsible to practice a minimum of twice a week to retain active status and be considered for the show team. Practices are mandatory and absences must be excused. Each member should be prepared to arrive early for their practice to groom and tack up and plan to stay 30 minutes after to properly cool down, groom, and clean your horse's equipment.
