Long Ball Lifts Baldwin Wallace Past Baseball

BEREA, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team lost both games in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader on Friday to Baldwin Wallace University (BW) at Fisher Field. The Fightin' Quakers lost 8-2 in the first game and 14-4 in the second game.

Baldwin Wallace had 12 hits compared to Wilmington's 6 hits in the first game. The game was scoreless until Trent Kaltenbach hit a home run in the bottom of the third inning. Wilmington took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Jake Hyatt singled and knocked in Luke Kleindl and Bryce Fordyce. Alex Ludwick tied the game up 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning when he hit a homerun. The bottom of the fifth inning was a big turning point in the game as Jacob Bonner doubled and brought Chase Knodle home. Bonner would score later in the inning on a wild pitch. Alex Ludwick hit his second homerun and helped bring Alex Marcum home in the process. This helped Baldwin Wallace build a comfortable 6-2 lead. Dudley Taw hit a homerun with Bonner on base to give the Yellow Jackets an 8-2 advantage.

Jarrett Trautman pitched five innings for the Quakers and had three strikeouts and two walks. Trautman allowed nine hits and three home runs. Tyler McDaniel pitched three innings for Wilmington and had a strikeout and a walk. He allowed three hits and a homerun. Evan Lovick pitched six innings for the Yellow Jackets and had one walk and three strikeouts. He allowed four hits and two runs. Jack Raines pitched three innings for BW and also had one walk and three strikeouts, while allowing two hits.

Jake Hyatt went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs for Wilmington. Daniel Hayes also went 2-for-4 for the Quakers. Joe Legin went 1-for-3 with a run while Luke Kleindl went 1-for-4 with a run as well. Alex Ludwick went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two homeruns for Baldwin Wallace. Dudley Taw went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a homerun. Chase Knodle was 2-for-4 with a run, while Jacob Bonner was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Baldwin Wallace jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game when Dudley Taw hit a home run that also brought Jacob Bonner home. Shane Hale scored for the Quakers on a throwing error in the top of the third inning. Jacob Bonner doubled to help Chase Knodle score in the bottom of the third. Bonner would score later in the inning on a throwing error. Alex Ludwick would score later in the same inning on a single from Spencer Badia. This would give the Yellow Jackets a 5-1 lead at the end of three innings. Josh Chua scored on a throwing error in the top of the fourth and Jake Hyatt hit a home run in the top of the sixth to make the score 5-3. Trent Kaltenbach scored on a passed ball and Alex Ludwick tripled to knock in Alex Marcum and Jacob Bonner. Ludwick scored later in the inning on a single from Spencer Badia. Lane Niemann hit a homerun with Phillip Wells and Spencer Badia on base. This would give the Yellow Jackets a 12-3 lead at the end of the sixth inning. Dudley Taw scored on a single from Alex Ludwick in the bottom of the 7th. Asa Adams scored on a double from Luke Razzante in the 8th. Kasey Bottorff scored in the top of the ninth and gave Daniel Hayes an RBI.

Alec Robinette pitched three innings for Wilmington and had two strikeouts and a walk. He allowed six hits and five runs.Michael Hubert got the win for Baldwin Wallace and had six strikeouts in four innings. He allowed four hits and a homerun. Danny Cody had five strikeouts and a walk, while allowing three hits and two runs in four innings. Max Adams had a strikeout and allowed two hits and one run in one inning.

Wilmington finished with nine hits. Shane Hale and Nick Silvis each had two hits for Wilmington. Jake Hyatt and Kasey Bottorff each had a hit and an RBI for the Fightin' Quakers. Spencer Badia and Lane Niemann each had 3 hits and a run for Baldwin Wallace. Alex Ludwick, Dudley Taw, and Jacob Bonner all contributed with two hits each for the Yellow Jackets. BW finished with 17 hits.

Wilmington falls to 8-16 on the season and 0-6 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 17-7 and 3-3 in the OAC.

Wilmington will face Otterbein University in a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m.
