Baseball Hosts John Carroll in OAC Series on Thursday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team looks forward to Thursday afternoon as it will host John Carroll University in a two-game Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup.

The Series: A doubleheader will be played on Thursday with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m. and the nightcap at 4 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll. Wilmington, which is 8-12 after a 14-10 loss to Muskingum University on Monday, looks to shake off the rough weekend and get back into the swing of things with a sweep over John Carroll, which would even up the Fightin Quakers' record in the OAC to 2-2. John Carroll who is sitting at an even .500 at 8-8 this season is also 0-2 in conference play after a double header loss to Capital University.

The Coaches: Dan Cleaver is in his sixth season with the Quakers baseball team including the previous four seasons have been as head coach. Marc Thibeault is in his 19th season at the helm for the Blue Streaks and is the all-time winningest head coach for the program.

Hitters to Watch: Nick Silvis a sophomore for the Fightin' Quakers is leading the team with his .342 average out of the lead-off spot. Silvis has also picked up nine RBIs so far and as well as 15 runs scored. Senior Josh Chua is a double's machine as he leads the team with seven so far this season. Chua is also hitting a .319 clip out of the three hole, and like Silvis, has 15 runs scored as well as leading the team in RBIs with 17. Junior Dominic Mittiga looks to stay on track as he his hitting a tea- leading .394 for John Carroll as well as picking up 16 RBIs, four doubles and 12 runs scored.

Pitchers to Watch: Junior Joey Hollback has five appearances on the season and has thrown 22 innings gathering a 2.86 ERA and leads the team with 20 strikeouts on the season. Junior southpaw Jared Ferenchak, who is the team leader in ERA with a 2.61 through four appearances, is 2-2 has picked up seven strikeouts through 20.2 innings. Senior Blue Streak Steven Virost leads the team with 33.0 innings pitched and is 2-2 through his five starts this season. Virost has accumulated an ERA of 3.82 and has picked up a team high 32 strikeouts.

Series History: The Fightin' Quakers baseball team looks to put a change on history as it is just 3-16 against the Blue Streaks since the 2008-09 season.
