WILMINGTON, Ohio - Oberlin College was dominant in all facets of the game in a doubleheader sweep of the Wilmington College baseball team on Sunday as the Fightin' Quakers fell 10-1 and 12-3 to the Yeomen at Tewskbury-Denaley Field.
In game one, Wilmington mustered just two hits – one from Nick Silvis and one from Luke Kleindl – as the Quakers struggled to solve the Yeomen pitching staff. Oberlin scored four runs in the second inning and two in the third and rode the six-run advantage to a game one win.
Zach Steer picked up the victory allowing two hits in six innings pitched. Oberlin's three relief pitches all pitched an innings without giving up a hit to clinch the victory. Jarett Trautman took the first loss of his senior season allowing seven earned runs in three innings.
Despite only having two hits, the Quakers did draw seven walks including two from catcher Kasey Bottorff. Jack McGowan and Sam Harris each had three hits for Oberlin.
In game two, the Yeomen plated at least a run in five of the first six innings including a four-run sixth to make the score 10-2 after six complete innings.
Matt Oney dipped to 0-3 with the loss as he allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings pitched. Adam Doerger provided the best performance for the Wilmington pitching staff on the day, allowing just one hit in three innings pitched.
The Quakers had five hits in game two including a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI batting in the lead-off slot. Oberlin's lead-off hitter also had a stellar game two as Milo Sklar finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. The Yeomen tallied 16 hits in game two.
Wilmington (8-11) travels to Wittenberg University tomorrow (Monday).
