Baseball Opens OAC Play at Muskingum Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington Fightin' Quakers baseball team is heading east as it looks to face off against Muskingum this weekend to open up Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.

The Series: A doubleheader will be played on Saturday at Muskingum with the first game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and the nightcap at 4 p.m.

The Teams: The Fightin' Quakers baseball team looks to continue its hot streak as they are 7-3 in the past 10 games making them 8-7 overall this season. Muskingum aims to start off conference play strong as they are just 6-7 overall this season after two losses against Penn State-Behrend.

The Coaches: Dan Cleaver is in his sixth season with the Quakers baseball team; the previous four seasons have been as head coach. Gregg Thompson enters into his 23rd season at the helm for the Fighting Muskies baseball team and is the all-time career wins leader.

Hitters to Watch: Joshua Chua is leading the Fightin' Quakers with 16 RBIs and hitting .382 so far this season as well as gathering six doubles and 14 runs scored while also stealing six bases. Nick Silvis averages a .353 clip batting in the leadoff spot this season. Senior Eddie Harper is hitting .385 on the season for the Muskies and has knocked in a team leading 16 RBIs. Harper has also picked up five stolen bases and has 11 runs scored. 

Pitchers to Watch: Jared Ferenchak has three appearances, all of which have been starts. Ferenchak is 2-1 through those three starts and both wins have come by complete games. Through 17 innings, he has picked up six strikeouts and has an ERA of 2.12. Alec Robinette has a 3-0 record with all wins coming in relief. He also has one save and a 2.40 ERA. Evan Hinds the Muskingum junior leads the Muskies in innings pitched with 20.1. Through three starts, Hinds is 3-0 with an ERA of 2.21 and has picked up 14 strikeouts.

OAC Hitter of the Week: Joshua Chua is the reigning OAC Baseball Hitter of the Wee. He finished the week with a .375 batting average to bolster the Fightin' Quakers' offense to an 8-3 record. He tallied 15 hits including five doubles, two triples and one home run. Chua drove in 14 runs, drew six walks and stole five bases on the week.

Series History: The Muskies have gotten the best of the Quakers as Wilmington is just 2-18 against Muskingum since the 2008-09 season.

Up Next: WIlmington host Oberlin College in a double header on Sunday with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m. and game two at 4 p.m.
