FLORENCE, KY – Wilmington College pitching was lights out Saturday as the Fightin' Quakers swept Mount St. Joseph Saturday at UC Medical Field in non-conference action. Four pitchers combined to hurl 18 innings of scoreless baseball as Wilmington claimed 4-0 and 1-0 victories.

It was Wilmington's first sweep since it took a pair from Newbury to start the 2012 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE (Wilmington 4, MSJ 0)

• Sophomore Jared Ferenchak, 1-0, (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) scattered seven hits over six innings for his first win of the season.  He added two strikeouts and two walks.
• Freshman Jacob Helterbrand (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) earned his first career save, allowing two hits in three innings of work with one strikeout and two walks.
• Mount St. Joseph had a base runner in every inning, and was 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
• Wilmington took the lead in the top of second on a two-out RBI single by freshman Kasey Bottorff (Columbus, OH/Hamilton Twp.), scoring Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/South).
• The Fightin' Quakers added a run in the fourth on a sophomore Gage Bley (Harrison, OH/Harrison) sacrifice fly, and they added two more in the fifth. Sophomore Jake Hyatt (Madeira, OH/Madeira) had an RBI single and junior Joshua Chua (Lancaster, England/Claremont [CA]) recorded a sacrifice fly.
• Freshman Nick Silvis (Beavercreek, OH/Indian Lake) had his second career multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO (Wilmington 1, MSJ 0)

• Freshman Shane Hale (New Lebanon, OH/Dixie) scored the game's only run in the third inning. After leading off the inning with a single, and moving the second on a sacrifice bunt, Hale moved to third on a single by sophomore Alec Robinette (Lebanon, OH/Little Miami). The run crossed the plate as the Lions elected to take throw through to nap Robinette, allowing Hale to score.
• Freshman Matt Oney, 1-0, (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) took a no-hitter into the fourth inning. He allowed three hits with four walks and a strikeout to secure his first career victory.
• Sophomore Ryan Collett (Wilmington, OH/Clinton Massie) recorded his first career save, allowing two hits in three innings of work. He finished with three strikeouts, including the last two outs with the tying run on second base.
• Junior Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) finished with a pair of hits, but his biggest contribution came with the glove. With Wilmington holding a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning and the tying run on second, Hayes laid out for a grounder up the middle and made the throw to end the inning.
• Robinson was on base three times with a hit and two walks, and Silvis has the team's only extra base hit.

"We worked so hard on the pitching since September," said Wilmington head coach Dan Cleaver. "We know that is the key to being a good team. Our guys threw strikes today."

"We tell our pitching to just be around the plate because our guys will make plays for them," said Cleaver. "We knew our defense was going to be super, but Daniel Hayes was incredible. You have to hit it over his head; you can't hit it to either side of him because he is going to get it. He comes up big."

"It's not so much the sweep, but 18 innings of scoreless baseball; it's incredible," said Cleaver.
