Whitney drives in four as @DubC_Baseball swept by Capital

BEXLEY, OH – The Wilmington College baseball team fell to Capital in both ends of the OAC doubleheader by identical 11-4 scores.

Wilmington (3-17 overall, 0-6 OAC) is scheduled for host Muskingum 1 p.m. Wednesday in a league doubleheader at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.

GAME ONE: CAPITAL 11, WILMINGTON 4

Wilmington raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but was outscored 11-1 over the remainder of the game.

Freshman Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/Central) picked up an RBI, and reached on an error in the first. Senior Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen) added a pair of runs with a one-out single to centerfield. Whitney added a third RBI by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.

Junior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) was the only WC hitter with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Sophomore Samuel Cranor (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) allowed seven runs (five earned) in four innings of relief. Junior Derek Peters (Fayetteville, OH/Fayetteville) started, and allowed four earned runs in four innings.

GAME TWO: CAPITAL 11, WILMINGTON 4

Junior Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) and freshman Keith Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) registered four, two each, of Wilmington's seven hits.

The Crusaders opened an 8-1 lead through six innings as Whitney scored Cleaver with a fourth-inning single.

Wilmington scored three of its four innings in the eighth inning. Junior Billy Foster (Xenia, OH/Xenia) drew a bases-loaded walk and junior Luke Matthews (Centerville, OH/Centerville) singled home another run. Junior Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) capped the scored with an RBI fielder's choice.

Walker took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits over six innings.
