WILMINGTON, Ohio – Wilmington College has been named as one of "The 10 Best Institutions for Careers in Sports and Athletics in 2018" by The Knowledge Review.
The Knowledge Review cited the College's "extraordinary infrastructure and facilities" that its students have access to during their four years on campus. They were particularly impressed with the new Center for Sport Sciences (CSS) stating that it "features an athletic training clinic on par with or exceeding that of many large universities and professional sports teams". This facility serves as a great tool for WC's renowned Athletic Training program, which, as the Knowledge Review says, "features alumni who serve as head athletic trainers, for, among others, the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Royals".
WC's Sport Management program was also highlighted for its hands-on learning opportunities such as working at the Super Bowl and NCAA Division I Football Championship. Recent sport management graduates have landed internships with professional sports franchises such as the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks.
The Sport Management program was named as a Top 10 program nationally by Schools.com earlier this week as well as being picked as the top program by Best Small Colleges in 2015.
Dr. Alan Ledford, sport management program director and assistant professor of sport management, said the recognition reflects the reality of a high-quality program with a national reputation.
"With our location being in close proximity to Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus, we have multiple opportunities to provide our students with significant, hands-on learning experiences in the sport management field," he said.
"Along with working mega-events each year like the Super Bowl and college football playoffs, each class is responsible for a major project and volunteering for such events as Cincinnati Reds games, the NCAA Women's Final Four, Recreation Unlimited and Cincinnati's Flying Pig Marathon. Students also participate in industry-wide informational interviews."
