Homecoming events wrap up with Hermann Madness

The final event of homecoming will be the first event of the Wilmington College basketball season as the Sport Management department will sponsor Hermann Madness Saturday at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.

With the first official day of practice at the Division III level on October 15, the event comes at an optimal time for both programs.

"We have been trying to build this event over the last couple of years, and I have a feeling, this one will be the best yet," said Sport Management Program Director Alan Ledford. "The best part of the night could come if someone wins $100,000."

The first 500 people in attendance will have the opportunity to win over $100,000 and the chance to win a 2018 Jeep Compass. Doors will open at 10:30 p.m. with events starting at 11 p.m. and running until 1 a.m.

It marks the first public practice for the Fightin' Quakers.

The women's team is coming off an 18-10 season in which they fell in the Ohio Athletic Conference championship. While they must replace four seniors, Wilmington returns preseason All-American Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin).

Senior Emily Harman (Versailles, OH/Versailles) is the only other returning starter for WC, but its backcourt will be bolstered by senior Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) and the return of junior Ellie Kivell (West Chester, OH/Lakota West).

The men's team returns four starters, including sharpshooting guard Christian Jones (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton), as the Fightin' Quakers look to improve off its 9-16 season. Junior Andrew Russell (Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) and senior guard D.J. Iles (Fayetteville, OH/Fayetteville Perry) return after starting 24 and 25 games, respectively.

Three players – junior Kevin Lewis (Cincinnati, OH/Clark Montessori), senior Jordan Jones (Dayton, OH/Thurgood Marshall) and junior Will Patrick (Chester, PA/Pickerington Central) – combined to start 25 games at the other guard position.

Wilmington's men's team travels to Highland Heights, KY 1 p.m. November 12 for an exhibition game with Division I Northern Kentucky University before kicking off the season 7 p.m. November 15 at Thomas More College.

On the women's side, the Fightin' Quakers kick off the season November 17 by hosting the Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament.
