Wilmington to host Ohio Valley Hoops Classic

The Wilmington College athletic department is pleased to host the Second Annual Ohio Valley Hoops Classic Friday and Saturday in Fred Raizk Arena at Hermann Court.

A premier high school basketball event brings some of the region’s best talent to Clinton County. The field features a two-time defending state champion, a final-four team, an elite-eight team and two sweet-sixteen teams from a year ago. Three other teams were all ranked in the top three in Division I in Ohio at one point in the season last year, and all three have the nucleus of their team returning for this season. No fewer than eight players already have Division One scholarship offers, five of those from Power-Five conferences.

Two of the top three players in the state of Ohio – Wilmington’s Jarron Cumberland and Cleveland East Tech’s Markell Johnson – are featured in the event. Cumberland will be featured in one of the best match-ups as the Hurricane caps the first night with a game against Cleveland Heights, which stars Jaylen Harris – a four-star football prospect with offers from Ohio State and Michigan. The Tigers have three of the top 60 players in the state of Ohio.
